Team captain Marvin Bakalorz was substituted in the first half of Hannover’s 3-1 loss at Sandhausen and is doubtful for Wednesday’s match. Central defender Felipe returned from muscular issues to enter the match as a sub after missing six matches. Felipe replaced Timo Hubers who was substituted as a precaution after he noted an issue with his thigh at halftime.

Dresden heads to Hannover for the first of three midweek matches to catch up to the rest of the league. Due to an extended quarantine following positive results in coronavirus testing among the squad, Dresden will play eight matches in June.

Hannover had a day to forget after his squad lost 3-1 at Sandhausen. A win would have boosted Hannover all the way to sixth in the table going into this make-up match against Dresden. It was Hannover’s first loss in five matches. Having posted three wins and a draw in that span helped boost the club from the fringes of the relegation fight to relative safety, with a six-point cushion above the bottom three plus a chance at adding as many as three more with this midweek fixture. As was the case earlier in the week against Karlsruher, Hannover was unable to convert several good chances in attack to take charge of the match, instead striking the goalpost twice in the first half-hour of play.

Dresden kept things close against second-place Stuttgart until the visitors doubled their lead in the 88th minutes to secure the 2-0 victory. Markus Kauczinksi’s squad looked understandably out-of-sync early in their first match in three months, especially compared to Stuttgart who was playing their third match in eight days. The trainer nonetheless praised his team for their effort against the league’s second-place team, especially for limiting big chances for their visitors while getting a few chances to equalize early in the second half.

Dresden will be making their first road trip in the new post-coronavirus world and have just three days between matches. Dresden has also taken just seven points from 12 away league matches this season.  Hannover has been poor at home all season, with just 14 points from 13 league matches, but they are unbeaten in their last six at home in the league. Take Hannover here.

Dresden has been held without a goal in four of their last five road league matches and trailed 1-0 in the other. Hannover has held the 1-0 lead in four of their last five at home in the league.

These teams have met in 2. Bundsliga competition just three times ever, and the visitor has won all three matches, including Hannover’s 2-0 win at Dresden last October.
